Cheap phones are an alluring temptation when the quality, looks and features that they offer are fairly comparable to that of their high-priced branded counterparts. Consumer electronics companies in Asia are aggressively marketing their products worldwide. The kind of competition that US companies faced from the Japanese in the latter part of the 20th century is more or less identical to the competition that Japan itself is now facing from other smaller and less advanced Asian countries like Korea and Taiwan.

Even though the quality may not be on par with the kind of products that they are competing with, for all practical purposes the common man might find not much of a difference between these and the high-priced variety.
Another totally different scenario also exists where the same high-priced, high quality products themselves are sold for incredibly low prices. Sometimes they are even given away for free! But as one might guess, there is always a catch in these kinds of offers. These products are offered either at a low price or for free because they come bundled in a 'combo' offer. Every phone, be it fixed-line or a mobile phone, needs a service provider through which the calls are routed. The services offered by these service providers are normally charged whereas the phone instrument itself is offered free or at a discounted price when both are bundled together for a special offer.

Offers of this kind are area-specific since service providers differ from place to place and from country to country. The kinds of phone instruments that are popularly used also differ region-wise and country-wise. AS a result, these kinds of bundled offers are more or less localized in nature. The offers are also valid only for a short period of time before the next popular phone model takes its place.
So when people are on the lookout for a new phone at cheap rates, they have two options to choose from. They can either go in for a cheap-priced model from an Asian country or on the other hand, go in for the low-priced or free version of the high-priced model by purchasing it through a bundled offer available in that particular region.
